Shallow, bright water and soft sand at Falsterbo beach on a summer day

Falsterbo with children — shallow water, soft sand and sleeping alcoves

Falsterbo is built for families without anyone having planned it. The seabed slopes so gently that children can wade a hundred metres out and still be waist-deep, the village is calm and nearly car-free near the beach, and even short legs manage the walk from our homes to the sand. This is the page for planning a holiday with children — which house fits your family, which beach fits your children's ages, and the things parents usually want to know in advance.

Family-friendly stays in Falsterbo

Which home fits your family?

Five homes, three family sizes. Every home has a high chair (in a couple of them on request — mention it when you book and it will be set up), most have a travel cot, and the exact equipment is always listed on each home's page.

Two adults and a little one: the Guesthouse. One bedroom, room for three, travel cot and high chair — plus children's books and toys already there. Its own kitchen and private patio make early dinners easy, and from SEK 1,450 a night it is our most affordable home.

A family of four to six: the Beach Loft or the Coastal Flat — two 72 m² apartments with real bedrooms instead of sofa-bed logic. The Beach Loft adds a built-in sleeping alcove (140 cm) that children invariably claim as theirs, and the Coastal Flat has a patio with a grill for evenings when nobody has the energy to go out.

A big family or several generations: the Beach House sleeps twelve and is effectively two complete apartments booked together — each with its own kitchen and bathroom, so the grandparents get their own territory and toddler mornings don't wake the teenagers. Villa Falsterbo sleeps ten and has something none of our other homes have: a dedicated playroom with toys and books, plus a hot tub and garden for the adults.

Beaches by your children's age

Small children: Falsterbo strandbad. In high season (Midsummer to mid-August) municipal lifeguards are on duty daily from 11 to 18, and beside the lifeguard tower there are changing rooms, toilets and a kiosk selling ice cream and simple food. The bottom is sandy without stones, and the shallow water warms quickly on sunny days.

Older children: the same beaches work, but now the peninsula's shape becomes the family's best trick — the headland is only a couple of kilometres wide, so if the wind is unpleasant on one side, the other side is sheltered the same day. Check the wind direction in the morning and pick your beach accordingly.

The full run-through of the beaches — including where there is parking and where there is no service at all — is in our beach guide. And before you head down: we show the current water temperature right on this site.

Rainy days

They happen, even in July. Malmö is half an hour away and Copenhagen barely an hour — museums, food halls and rain-proof outings enough for a full week, collected in our day-trip guide. If anyone in the family watches birds, the autumn ringing sessions at the lighthouse garden are the best introduction a child can get. And honestly: a rainy day in a whole house with a full kitchen, wifi and toys beats a rainy day in a hotel room by a wide margin.

Practicalities with children in Falsterbo

No car? No problem. A grocery shop, café and bus stop are within walking distance of all our homes, and the bus takes you to Skanör and on towards Malmö. If you do drive, parking at the house is free — and the car can then sit still all week.

Allergy-friendly. All our homes are completely pet-free, year round. For families with fur allergies, that is often the very reason they book with us.

Your own kitchen changes everything. Dinner when the children are actually hungry, breakfast in pyjamas, packed lunches for the beach. All five homes have fully equipped kitchens — the places in our restaurant guide become a choice, not a necessity.

Honestly, parent to parent

The shallow water makes this beach safer than most — but the Baltic is cool outside June–August, so don't plan a swimming holiday in May. The village is a real village: shops close early and the nightlife is an ice-cream kiosk, which is exactly what parents of small children tend to want and exactly what teenagers tend to complain about. In summer our minimum stay is five nights, and school holidays book up early — if you are locked to the weeks around Midsummer or July, book before spring. And avoid the Horse Show week in July if you are coming for the calm: that is when the peninsula is at its fullest.
