Falsterbo sits at the very southwestern tip of Sweden, a slender peninsula surrounded by sea on three sides. Despite its secluded feel, getting here is straightforward whether you fly, drive or take the train. Here is everything you need to plan your journey.
New to the peninsula? Lonely Planet calls it the Swedish Riviera — our guide to the Swedish Riviera explains what to expect once you are here.
From Copenhagen and Denmark
Falsterbo is the nearest Swedish beach village to Copenhagen. The peninsula sits directly across the Oresund from the Danish capital, and the bridge turns the crossing into one uninterrupted drive — about 50 minutes from central Copenhagen, or about 35 minutes from Copenhagen Airport at Kastrup. There is no ferry to catch and no detour inland.
For a short break from Denmark, that is close enough to leave after breakfast and be on the sand by lunch — and close enough that a single night away still feels worth the drive. You arrive at eight kilometres of shallow, gently shelving sand, two small harbour towns and three golf courses, with the bridge behind you rather than a day of travel.
If you are flying in from further afield, Copenhagen Airport is the more useful of the two arrival points — Scandinavia's largest hub, and already on the shore of the same strait. Hire a car at the terminal and drive over the bridge in about 35 minutes, or take the Oresund train to Hyllie, its first stop in Sweden, and change to bus 300. Drivers pay the bridge toll set out below.
Fra København: over Øresundsbron og ned til stranden.
By air
Two airports serve the Falsterbo area, making it easy to reach from across Europe and beyond.
Copenhagen Kastrup (CPH) — 35 min drive
Copenhagen Airport is the best option for international travellers. Scandinavia's largest hub has direct connections to most major European cities and many intercontinental routes. From Kastrup, you can rent a car and drive across the Oresund Bridge to Falsterbo in about 35 minutes. Alternatively, take the Oresund train to Hyllie, its first stop in Sweden, and bus 300 from there to Falsterbo. A single car crossing of the bridge costs SEK 620 with an online ticket, or SEK 690 at the toll station.
Malmo Airport / Sturup (MMX) — 25 min drive
Malmo Airport is the closest option, just 25 minutes by car. It primarily handles domestic Swedish flights from Stockholm. Car hire is available at the terminal, or you can take the airport coach to Malmo Central and connect by bus.
By car
Driving is the most convenient way to reach Falsterbo, and having a car gives you the freedom to explore the surrounding area during your stay. From Malmo, follow road 100 south through Vellinge toward Skanor-Falsterbo. The final stretch along the Falsterbo Canal offers a scenic welcome to the peninsula.
If you are coming from Denmark, cross the Oresund Bridge and follow the E6 motorway south of Malmo before turning off toward Vellinge and road 100. The total driving time from central Copenhagen is about 50 minutes. From Gothenburg, follow the E6 south — it takes around 3.5 hours. From Stockholm, the journey is approximately 6 hours via the E4 and E6.

By train and bus
Sweden has excellent rail connections. Trains from Stockholm, Gothenburg and other cities arrive at Malmo Central Station, and local trains run on through the city tunnel to Hyllie in a few minutes. From Hyllie, Skanetrafiken bus 300 runs via Vellinge and Skanor to Falsterbo Strandbad in about 40 minutes, several times an hour at peak times. The Falsterbo stops are within walking distance of our properties. SkaneExpressen 15 also leaves from Malmo Central itself, but it ends in Skanor, so for Falsterbo bus 300 is the simpler choice.
If you are arriving from Copenhagen, the Oresund train crosses the bridge and stops at Hyllie first. Get off there and change to bus 300 as above.
Booking tip
Book long-distance trains at sj.se (English version available). Regional buses can be purchased via the Skanetrafiken app or at skanetrafiken.se. During summer, buses can fill up, so plan with a little extra time.
The Oresund Bridge
The iconic 16-kilometre bridge-and-tunnel link between Denmark and Sweden is the main gateway if you arrive via Copenhagen. The toll station is at Lernacken on the Swedish side, and you can pay by card. From 14 September 2026 a single car crossing costs SEK 690 at the toll station, or SEK 620 with an online ticket bought in advance. Frequent travellers can save with an ØresundGO agreement. Full details at oresundsbron.com.
