There is no single best time to visit the Swedish Riviera — it depends on what you are coming for. Here is the short answer, then the numbers behind it, all measured on the peninsula itself.
- Beach summer: July and August — the warmest days, and lifeguards on the main beaches until mid-August.
- The best swim and a quiet village: September.
- Birds: mid-August to mid-September for the raptors, October and November for seabirds.
- Falsterbo Horse Show: 10–18 July 2027 — book months ahead.
The climate, month by month
The air figures come from SMHI's weather station on the peninsula, not from Malmö or an airport inland, and the sea figures are what the municipality measures at the beaches. Nobody samples the sea outside mid-May to mid-August, so those months are left empty rather than guessed.
| Month | Daytime high average daily maximum | Rain | Sea measured at the beaches | Daylight |

A coolcation, in numbers
July is the warmest month, with an average daytime high of 21.9 °C, and August is barely behind at 21.7 °C. Proper heat is rare: on average only 4.3 days in July reach 25 °C. That is the whole point of a coolcation, and it is why Lonely Planet sends people north for the summer — but it also means a jumper and a windproof belong in the bag next to the swimwear. August is the wettest month here, with 69 mm on average.
More on what that means for a holiday in our guide to the Swedish Riviera, and for today's wind and water, beach by beach, see the live water temperature.
Month by month
Winter: December to February
The peninsula is at its quietest, with about 7 hours of daylight in mid-December and wind that makes a beach walk feel earned. Locals still swim off the jetty at Stens Brygga, winter included. Several restaurants are seasonal or keep short hours, so check before you set out. Måkläppen, at the peninsula's southernmost tip, closes to visitors from 1 February.
Spring: March to May
The days lengthen fast, from about 12 hours of daylight in mid-March to 16 in mid-May. The spring migration is quieter than the autumn one but has its own charm, and the golf season builds towards its June-to-August peak. May is warm in the sun and cool in the wind — a good month for long walks and bike rides before the summer crowds.
June: the longest days
Around midsummer the sun is up for about 17 hours, and the average daytime high reaches 20.0 °C. Lifeguards start at midsummer, and the Swedish summer holidays begin. Plenty of people write off June for swimming; the measurements above say it is better than its reputation.
July and August: high summer
The warmest and busiest weeks of the year. Falsterbo Horse Show runs 10–18 July 2027, and the peninsula books out months ahead that week. The free Gåsatåget tourist train runs between Falsterbo Resort and Skanör town hall, lifeguards are on duty at the main beaches until mid-August, and the beach car parks fill from mid-morning — which is when being able to walk to the sand pays off. Golfers should book tee times a week or two ahead.
September: the local's month
September is the village's best-kept secret. The daytime high is still 18.3 °C on average, the day-trippers have gone, and the sea is still holding August — it is often the best swim of the year. It is also the dependable month for the raptor migration over Nabben, and Falsterbo Bird Show runs 3–5 September 2027 at Skanörs Ljung, so beds go early that weekend.
October and November: wind and seabirds
October is the calmest month in the village and an underrated one for birders: fewer raptors, but seawatching from Nabben comes into its own. Daylight drops to about 10 hours in mid-October and 8 in mid-November, and Måkläppen opens again after 31 October. Bring proper windproofs — it is rarely cold on paper and always cold out on the point.
Which week to book
If your dates are fixed by an event, book early: the peninsula books out months ahead for Horse Show week, and beds go early for the Bird Show weekend. Families usually want the summer holidays, when lifeguards are on duty — our Falsterbo with children page covers which beach suits which age. Birders should look at late August and September on our birdwatching stays page, and golfers at the golf stays.
And if you are flexible, come in September. You get a sea still warm from August, a calm village and, most evenings, the beach to yourself.
